St. Francis High School is philosophically opposed to tracking students. A student is free to select any course in any area as long as she meets the prerequisites. All students take a mix of classes, some standard college preparatory, some more rigorous. For example, a student who loves literature and language may take honors and Advanced Placement French and English and perhaps three years of Theater Arts, but might take only 2 laboratory sciences. Another may take 4 lab sciences and 4 or 5 math courses, but decide not to take a 3rd or 4th year of language or AP history. The rich array of courses offered allows the student to have many choices and yet meet the subject requirements for admission to four-year universities.
Prerequisites
Prerequisites are designed to assure that a student is prepared to succeed in the course. For example, a student needs to master Algebra 2 in order to be successful in Precalculus.
