SF Players Perform at Lenaea Festival 2008
(Troubadour Tribune February-March 2008)
The thirty members of the SF Players performed an abridged version of William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" in our Black Box Theatre and on the Sac State campus. In addition to the play, student-written monologues, selected scenes and a musical theatre performance were incorporated into SF's festival presentations.
Over 60 secondary schools from Northern California and beyond participate in the annual festival. On the final Sunday a recognition celebration ended the festivities with awards and special performances.

About the play: The award-winning SF Players' entry into the 2008 Sac State Lenaea Festival is an abridged version of Shakespeare's fantastical comedy, A Midsummer Night's Dream. Set in Golden Gate Park in the summer of 1967, the young lovers, mischievous Puck, Titania and her Fairy Kingdom, Oberon and, of course, the pompous Bottom converge in merriment, magic and music as the fable unfolds.
Punctuating the story and the era with songs by The Turtles, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Harpers Bizarre, The Buckinghams, Jefferson Airplane, and The Beatles, this "Midsummer" stays fast-paced, a bit irreverent, and filled with over the top fun!
