2007 St. Francis Water Polo Practice Format & Team Rules

Practice attendance is required. Roll call will be taken at every practice. If you miss a practice, you must notify the coaching staff in advance.  Failure to do so may result in removal from the team.

If you want to maximize our limited practice time, it is imperative that you are stretched and ready for the pool at the start time indicated.

Rules of the St. Francis Water Polo Program:

1.  If you miss a practice without notifying the coaching staff, you have placed yourself in jeopardy of being cut from the team. Chris’ email address is cborasi@stfrancishs.org. Coaches will give the members of each team a roster with team member and coaches telephone #s and e-mail addresses.

2.  Freshman and Sophomores will play on the frosh/soph team unless an exception is made by the varsity coaching staff in which they may play varsity. Practice groups will be divided up into a Varsity group and a JV group. The Varsity group will be made up of all Srs/Jrs, and Soph/Frosh players as decided by the coaching staff. The JV group will be all other Soph/Frosh players. The practice groups will be based on grade until changes are determined and posted by the coaching staff.

3.  Roll will be taken daily. Attendance must be at 90 percent to accompany the team to tournaments or post season. This means that only  3 unexcused absences during the season are allowed.  Some latitude is given to frosh/soph players at the coaches discretion for other sports. However, other sports absences cannot exceed one per week. For 2007, this rule is in effect as of Monday, August 20th. (Note: all absences, excused and unexcused will have an impact on playing time and your grade.)

Excused Absences: Illness (with medical note). For common illness, players are expected to call the head coach and be available to attend practice without getting into the water. Family Emergency, Recruiting Trips, and MANDATORY School Events.

For Frosh/Soph players, If you plan on taking Water Polo as a PE grade, 4 absences will result in a grade of B, 7 absences will result in a grade of C, and 10 or more will receive a D grade. If you attended school during the day you will be expected to attend water polo practice that evening

4. Team suits will be ordered within the first week of practice. Each player will be asked to purchase a team suit or a suit of matching color. Players must wear a one-piece swimsuit to practice which is suitable for water polo.  Red and white swim caps will be provided for games at the beginning of the season.  Players should have alternate swim caps for practices (any color).

5.  St. Francis water polo players are expected to attend all games, tournaments, practices and team functions.

6.  For Varsity, a maximum of 18 athletes will be selected. For Frosh/Soph- all athletes who follow team rules will be eligible for practices and games. If there are a large number of frosh/soph athletes- tournament rosters will be posted 1 week prior to the tournament.

7.  All team members must be in good academic standing and be in compliance with the St. Francis Student-Parent Handbook.

8.  We expect all athletes and parents to conduct themselves in a manner suiting the principles established by St. Francis HS and the sportsmanship guidelines established by the CIF. Excessive yelling at game officials is not warranted and may be detrimental to our teams.
