NEW TECHNOLOGY AT SFHS Over the course of the summer, we have invested a significant amount of time, resources and funds to upgrade all of the technology on the St. Francis campus. This year, your daughters will see permanently mounted projectors in all their classrooms and an updated computer lab, as well as a brand new wireless network that covers the whole campus, which will be fully functional in the next few weeks.
This year, especially with the new wireless capabilities, we are allowing your daughters to bring laptops to school. They will be able to use their computers during their free blocks, lunch, and even in the classrooms as designated by the teachers. Although we have the capabilities, we are still exploring all the possibilities in the classroom and leave student laptop use to the discretion of the teacher.
At this point, we are not supporting Kindles, or any other type of e-readers in the classroom. Although your daughters are welcome to have these devices on campus, we are still using textbooks in the classroom.
Along with laptops, students will also be allowed to use netbooks and iPads. iTouches, iPods, iPhones, and other PDAs/Smartphones, will not have access to our wireless network. During this new venture, our technology staff will not serve as technology support for student owned computers, etc. If there is a problem with a student’s device, they will have to have the device repaired on their own. Students are responsible for their own computers/devices.
We are looking forward to a new and exciting school year and are eager to really dive into our new technology and expand the scope of its use. |
