College Guidance Program

The college guidance program begins with an introduction at the ninth grade level, and increases in scope each year to culminate in extensive and individualized counseling in the twelfth grade. Counselors remain current on developments in all aspects of the college application process by attending several workshops each year.

Freshman Year

  • Classroom presentations and explanation of a permanent record
  • Introduction to College/Career Center
  • Parent academic information evening
  • Small group academic counseling
  • Development of a 4-year academic plan
  • “Freshmen Flyer” Newsletter

Sophomore Year

  • Registration/administration of PSAT
  • Classroom presentations and interpretation of PSAT results
  • Small group and individual academic counseling
  • Parent college information evening
  • Introduction to college websites and other resources
  • Quarterly Newsletter – “The Sophomore Scoop”

Junior Year

  • Registration/administration of PSAT/NMSQT
  • Classroom presentations and interpretation of PSAT results
  • College counseling workshops  - “Just For Juniors”
  • Individual academic/college counseling
  • Strong Interest Inventory (career assessment) available on-line for Juniors
  • Quarterly Newsletter – “Junior News”
  • Parent college information evening

Senior Year

  • Extensive group and individual counseling regarding the entire college application process
  • UC and CSU application workshops on campus
  • Community College application assistance
  • Community College assessment testing on campus
  • SF College News newsletters
  • Monthly scholarship listings
  • Parent evenings regarding college and financial aid

Services Open To All Levels

  • College trips to locations such as the San Francisco Bay Area, Southern California , and the East Coast
  • On-campus presentations by college representatives
  • Area college fair information
  • Extensive library of college catalogs, videos, career materials, financial aid information and test preparation books
  • PSAT, ACT and SAT testing on campus
  • Athletic scholarship guidance
  • Individual student and parental college counseling
