Visiting College Campuses

Visiting college campuses is one of the more important means of discovery when evaluating your college options. Here are a few tips:

Include visits while vacationing with your family.
Call colleges ahead of time and request a guided tour.
Visit a variety of colleges - big and small, public and private - so that you can compare diffferent types of institutions.

Colleges Visiting St. Francis

Fifty colleges and universities send representatives to visit the St. Francis campus each year. It is important that students meet with a representative from the colleges/universities they are considering for admission. However, it is equally important that students attend all of their classes and prepare well for college. We recommend that students choose wisely the times and dates to sign up for a visit with a college representative. It is critical that students do not miss tests or important lecture information. Students are asked to limit their visits, only signing up for schools in which they have substantial interest.

Students can visit Naviance or see their counselor for information on dates and times of visits and to sign-up for a meeting.

College Fairs

Free and open to the public, college fairs allow students and their parents to talk to admission representatives from many colleges and universities in one location. You can discuss course offerings, admission and financial aid requirements, and other information pertinent to the college selection process. It's like a nationwide college tour in your own backyard!
Make connections, get questions answered, and have fun too!

7:00-9:00pm

Please carpool if possible.
Jesuit and Loretto students come between 7-8 p.m.
Christian Brothers and St. Francis students come between 8-9 p.m.
Other private schools come between 7-9 p.m.

Over 100 colleges and universities have been invited to this event. Speak with representatives from: UC, CSU, Community Colleges, Private and Public Colleges in California and across the country.
A Financial Aid workshop is also offered.

Career Exploration/Interest Inventories

Seniors, have you completed the "Do What You Are" Personality Inventory and the
Career Interest Profiler available on Naviance?

These assessments will not choose a career for students; however, they do help students understand how their interests compare to those people satisfactorily employed in more than 100 different occupations. Having similar interests of people who have made successful career choices is a good indicator that you might enjoy similar occupations.

Counselors will discuss the results of these inventories with students during counseling meetings.

Students may also use myroad.com's Insight, an internet magazine, to research colleges and careers, and to find interviews with dynamic leaders in a variety of careers.
