Selecting Courses of Study
Freshman, Sophomore and Junior students receive scheduling information from their counselors and will register for courses online using the TCCi Naviance Course Manager program. Training on this process is given in January and course scheduling begins in February.
The Course Catalog is posted online and can also be found in Naviance Family Connection by clicking on the blue bag in the upper right area of the Course Scheduler. If a student is having trouble logging on to Naviance, she should seek assistance from her counselor.
Course Registration/Scheduling Process:
- Review Catalog Selections: Parents are encouraged to review the catalog selections with their daughter (taking care to note prerequisites for specific courses) and work together on building her four-year plan. Consider the academic graduation requirements for SFHS as well as any additional courses needed to attend more selective colleges and universities. The Guidance Department recommends that parents/guardians assist their daughters with scheduling to balance time needed for academic preparation, athletics, fine arts, and other extra-curricular activities.
- Meet with Counselor: After submitting requests online, students will meet one-on-one with their counselors to finalize selections. It is each student's responsibility to ensure that she meets with her counselor during the allotted time period. Students (and parents) should prepare a list of questions in advance of the student's meeting with the counselor.
- Parent Approval: Once the counselor approves the course selections, a course registration form will be sent home with the student for parent review and signature. Counselors will verify that a parent/guardian has signed approval for course selections (including summer school).
- 4-Year Plan: In order to complete course registration a parent/guardian must also sign a completed 4-year curriculum plan.
Once a schedule has been accepted by the student, parents, and counselor, no course changes will be allowed until Schedule Change Day the following August.
If you have questions regarding the registration process, please call your daughter's counselor.
Summer School
If a student will be attending summer school at SFHS she must complete the Summer School Registration Form available in the Guidance Department.
There is a $50 deposit for summer school, which is due to the Guidance Department by March 15. Summer school tuition is due in full on June 1. Course descriptions and tuition information become available in the spring.
Any student who plans to attend summer school at a school other than SFHS must consult with her guidance counselor prior to registering for the course. The student must provide her counselor with a description of the course from the summer program she plans to attend for approval. SFHS reserves the right to deny approval of any non-SFHS course that does not match our curriculum. If the course is approved, the student must complete and show proof of registration at the other high school to their SFHS counselor by May 1.
All remedial or make-up coursework should be taken at SFHS. Any course that is taken for the graduation requirement in English, Theology, World History, and US History MUST be taken at SFHS.
SFHS no longer accepts community college courses in lieu of our core curriculum.
