SENIOR Class of 2009

College Planning and Summer Homework Project

Summertime is a wonderful opportunity for reflection and preparation for the upcoming school year and college planning. It is highly recommended that students begin to actively review the college application process and its related tasks. This will alleviate some of the predictable stressors of the senior year.

During the junior college counseling meetings, students were given a College Planning and Summer Homework Project (also available for download below). There are four projects for the students and parents to complete and submit in the My Journal section of Naviance before the first day of the student's senior year:

  1. The Fact Sheet
  2. Senior Questionnaire
  3. The College Essay
  4. The Parent Brag Sheet

Every student must complete these assignments, even if they will not be asking for letters of recommendation.

Please be diligent in completing these assignments with careful thought and consideration. This information helps your teachers and counselor in writing letters of recommendation as well as with other steps of the application process.

Upload the information to Naviance and submit a copy to the Guidance Office on the first day of school.

This is an important and exciting year for the Class of 2009 as they make decisions about their future.  The college application process is just around the corner and the Guidance Center will be providing a variety of activities designed to help our seniors throughout the schoolyear.

In addition to classroom presentations and workshops, the Guidance Counselors will meet individually with each senior to discuss her individual planning needs. Parents are welcome to make appointments as well.

The College Application Process

As juniors, students should have

  • met one-on-one with their counselor to discuss their senior year schedule of courses, and
  • briefly reviewed information relating to the overall college research and application process.

As they begin their senior year, students should already have identified which colleges they wish to apply to in the fall. Be sure to read the St. Francis College Handbook and try some of the recommended college search engines.

The fall is a busy time of year as our seniors prepare for the college application filing process. Seniors can take advantage of the following guidance services:

  • in-class college counseling
  • individual college counseling appointments
  • frequent e-mail announcements about college visits in the area, college fairs, and additional college-related information
  • on-campus College Application Workshops during community lunch
