Cross Country Wins Ed Sias Behind 1-2-3 Finish

MARTINEZ, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country team won the team title for the second consecutive meet winning the large school girls title at the Ed Sias Invitational held at Hidden Valley Lakes Park in Martinez Saturday. The Troubadours crossed the line 1-2-3 and placed each of their top five runners in the first 22 finishers in the race.

“Today was a really good test to see some the Bay area schools and other state talent,” said Assistant Coach Mason Myers. “The girls were patient and did not go out too fast. Lauren, Madison and Miranda really moved up during the second part of the race.”

Senior Lauren LaRocco won her second consecutive race, finishing the two mile course in 11:36 to set a meet record. After a slow start, LaRocco moved up throughout the race to win her second race of the young season.

“I was really proud of everyone,” said LaRocco. “We stuck together as a team. I started the race in last place so I spent the whole race catching up so I was really glad to see my teammates in the front pack. When I got up there, I took them to the front and we got going.”

Teammate Madison Rawson was second overall just eight seconds back at 11:44 and junior Miranda Myers was third overall in 12:01. Camille Boudreaux placed 14th in 12:36 and Mallory Shingle crossed in 13:05 to finish 22nd.

“We talked all week about momentum of looking for the yellow St. Francis jersey in front of them,” said Myers. “Today was another good example of that. We want them to be a solid team as they move against the other competition.”

Junior Ariel Medina was 31st in 13:17, while sophomore Chase Worthen was 35th in 13:22.

The Troubadours return to action next Saturday at the Yolo County Championships held at the Muller Vineyards.
