Golf Advances to CIF NorCals with Third-Place Masters Finish

STOCKTON, Calif. – The St. Francis golf team qualified for the CIF NorCal Regional Championships with a third-place finish at the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters tournament on Monday at the Reserve at Spanos Park. The NorCals will be held at the The Club at Crazy Horse Ranch in Salinas on Monday, November 7.

“I know the whole team is super excited,” said junior captain Chase Saca. “We have worked really hard and this was ultimately our goal for the season. It was great.”

Saca tied for the low score of the day for the Troubadours with an eight-over par 80, shooting 39-41.

“I am happy with my round and I am happy we advanced,” said Saca.

Sophomore Olivia Alcoran also posted an 80.

“I definitely had more two putts than three putts,” said Alcoran. “My approach shots were pretty accurate so I was able to get it closer to the pin.”

Sophomore Patricia Sweeney carded an 82, freshman Nashla Aguero had an 89 and junior Lauren Allen posted a 90 to count a 421 team scored. Junior Lauren Liberatore recorded a 97. Granite Bay and Oak Ridge joined the Troubadours in qualifying to play again next week.

“It feels great because it is the first time I have experienced going to NorCals,” said Alcoran. “It is great. It is going to be really cool. I love how the team pulled together and made it happen.”

St. Francis qualified to the NorCal round for the first time since 2013 and are now one step away from qualifying for the state championships.

“When we all play good, we are a really strong team,” said Saca. “Next week if we can all play well and have good rounds, I think we have a chance.”

The shot gun start will start at 8 a.m. in Salinas.

“It will be challenge because there are a bunch of good teams,” said Alcoran. “As long as we have fun and play well, we will do great.”
