Golf Wins Final DRL Event and League Title

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. – The St. Francis golf team completed league play undefeated to capture the Delta River League title for the second consecutive season. The Troubadours won their third DRL event of the year, posting a 417 team score to win the event by 16 strokes over Oak Ridge.

“It means a lot to the three seniors we have on the team,” said Head Coach Cindy Mah-Lyford. “They have been to the postseason every year they have been on the team. It was not a sure thing and there was a lot of hard playing. They came together to have a pretty decisive win.”

Senior Emily Laskin won medalist honors for the second time this season with a three-over par 75 to edge Pleasant Grove’s Sarah Debnekoff, who carded a 76. With the win, Laskin solidified Most Valuable Player honors and was named to the all-league team.

“I got off to a slow start and was four-over par thru five holes,” said Laskin. “I got myself together and grinded. The last couple of holes came together and I finished birdie-birdie. It was a good end to the round and my high school league career.”

Senior Victoria Vardanega recorded an 81 for the Troubadours, while sophomore Kate Swanson came in with an 83 to record the third-best round of the day. St. Francis completed their team score with an 86 by Ileana MacDonald and Kristi Lee and Victoria Ramirez each recorded a 92.

Overall, St. Francis placed four players on the all-league team, including seniors Victoria Vardanega and Ileana MacDonald and sophomore Kate Swanson.

St. Francis advances to the Sac-Joaquin Section tournament at Rocklin Golf Club on Oct. 21. The Troubadours were a perfect 5-0 in league matches and won all three DRL events during the season.
