Soccer Wins Late vs. Franklin 3-2

ELK GROVE Calif. – Sophomore Janae DeFazio scored the game winner in extra time to give St. Francis a 3-2 win over Franklin on Tuesday.

Savannah Tijerino-Santos scored in the fourth minute to give the Troubadours a 1-0 lead. The assist came off passes from Elise Urkov pass and Janae DeFazio, who connected with Santos.

Franklin tied the game on a penalty kick in the 32nd minute and took the lead half way into the second half on a second PK.

SF tied the game on a free kick by A.J. Tanner in the 78th minute, setting up the late heroics by DeFazio who scored in the final minute off a Marli Berry assist.  DeFazio has now scored 14 goals on the season.

St. Francis improved to 13-4-4 on the season and 9-2-2 overall in the Delta League to place the Troubadours in second place. Playoff seeding for the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs start next week and will be announced on Friday.
