SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team won its second match of the season with a 9-0 victory over Ponderosa without dropping a set at Rio del Oro Racquet Club Tuesday afternoon.

“The team did great today,” said Head Coach Kristi Spector. “Coming off a tough match last week that we lost, it was important for the girls to come back out and focus on playing their game.”

The Troubadours swept each of the six singles matches. Seniors Kendall Spector and Anna Kropf did not drop a game at No. 2 and No. 4 singles, respectively, with 6-0, 6-0 wins. Sophomore Avery Spector recorded a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Ashley Tank at No. 1 singles and senior Jane Sadler defeated Paige Bergin at No. 3 by the score of 6-2, 6-0.

“It was a good match,” said Sadler. “We like playing Ponderosa. We have played them for a long time and always have a good time. We are really glad we beat them so we can move forward towards sectionals.”

St. Francis also got singles wins from Eden Elliott at No. 5 and Martina Penalosa at No. 6.

Marcela Sosa and Alyse Andre posted a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Micah Dial and Abby Benvenuti won at No. 2 by the score of 6-0, 6-4. Annie Gianulias and Megan Kahn completed the sweep without dropping a game at No. 3 doubles.

“It is always exciting when our whole team plays together,” said Sadler. “Tennis is an individual sport so it is awesome when we play better at the same time.”

St. Francis (2-1) travels to face Folsom at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
