Troubadours Place Second in Delta League All-Sports Award

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis athletic department placed second overall in the All-Sports Award standings for the Delta League among the girls programs for the 2015-16 season, losing to Davis by two points. The Troubadours recorded a league-best seven combined first and second-place finishes.

“We congratulate Davis and appreciate the great competition in our league,” said Athletic Director Mark McGreevy. “Winning is not a primary goal but a byproduct  of doing things well and we are proud of the efforts of our student-athletes and coaches.”

The eight schools in the league earn points based on their finish in the league standings in 10 different sports. Teams drop their two lowest scores, earning a rank for their top eight finishes. The point breakdown includes nine points for first place, seven for second, six for third, five for fourth, four for fifth, three for sixth, two for seventh and one for eighth.

St. Francis finished with 60 points aided by league titles in golf, tennis and basketball. The Troubies finished second in cross country, water polo, swimming and diving and track and field, while the soccer, softball and volleyball teams placed third. Davis won the title for the second consecutive year with 62 points, including five league titles. Franklin (46), Pleasant Grove (45.2) and Elk Grove (42) rounded out the top five schools.

The Delta League is one of the top Division I leagues and plays in the Sac-Joaquin Section of the California Interscholastic Federation. The league members include Davis, Elk Grove, Franklin, Grant, Monterey Trail, Pleasant Grove, St. Francis and Sheldon.
