SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Rio Americano water polo team fought back from two goals twice in the game and posted an 8-6 victory Thursday night over St. Francis.

“I think we had a really solid first quarter,” said Head Coach Heather Moody. “In the second we were scrambling but held it together. They came out really aggressive in the second half and we could not match their intensity.”

After allowing the first goal of the game, the Troubadours scored three times in the first period behind goals by Eileen Walsh, Lauren Charter and Brinnley Barthels. Rio tied the game at three but St. Francis finished the second period with a 5-4 lead.

The Troubies scored first in the third period to extend the lead to 6-4 but were outscored 4-0 over the final 13 minutes of action.

Julie Zanobini scored twice in the second half and Barthels also finished with two goals.

The Troubadours host a pair of matches next week against Franklin and Clovis West at Jesuit High School.
