| Established as a school for young women in 1940, St. Francis High School encourages the education of the whole person by providing high academic standards, a Christian environment for spiritual development, a full range of athletics, fine and performing arts, numerous on-campus clubs, and a variety of social activities. Award-winning new buildings constructed in 2003-2004 doubled the size of the school facilities. The Fine and Performing Arts Complex, Library/Resource Center, Gymnasium/Fitness Complex, four science labs and an Administration Building greatly enhance the campus. But the heart of the school remains the young women who come to it for an educational experience that is uniquely "St. Francis." The beautiful and functional new structures serve as the framework in which the mission of St. Francis High School continues. |

St. Francis continues to be a living, growing community of faith, excellence, leadership and service. As a Catholic school, St. Francis High School embraces the teachings and traditions of the Roman Catholic Church. While serving the Catholic families of the diocese of Sacramento, St. Francis also welcomes individuals of other faiths, recognizing the unique gifts they bring to the greater community. |

| What unites the members of our faith community is their commitment to "Pax et Bonum," the motto of St. Francis High School. "Pax et Bonum" embodies the spirit of the school and its dedication to the qualities of "Peace and Goodness" evident in the life of its patron, St. Francis of Assisi. It is this quest for "Peace and Goodness" that inspires all members of the community - students, teachers, staff and parents - to respect one another's beliefs, to share their individual spiritual journeys and to pray and work together as St. Francis of Assisi taught. The statue of St. Francis of Assisi that graces the front entrance of the school was created by Adan Romo, local artist and sculpture instructor at St. Francis High School. |

| Incorporated into the Arts Complex is a 500-seat theatre, recording studio and learning spaces custom-designed for drama, dance, sculpture, drawing, painting, multi-media design, choir, and orchestra. The beautiful new arts center is the home and heart of the St. Francis arts community and visually illustrates the school's philosophy and commitment to The Arts. |

State-of-the-art sound and lighting equipment and a fly tower allow for professional quality theatre staging and even the ability to fly. St. Francis High School's spring 2005 production of Peter Pan garnered nine Elly nominations. |

| The theatre lobby doubles as a gallery, displaying the visual art produced in drawing, painting, figure sculpture, and AP Studio Art. In the fall of 2005, 573 of the school's 956 students were enrolled in a visual arts class. |

| The Library Resource Center serves as the information hub of the campus, offering an integrated approach to research. The library media and technology programs engage students in the world of research and communication as an extension of the classroom curriculum. Collaborative planning with faculty results in meaningful and timely teaching of information skills. The library media program focuses on research skills instruction, curriculum support and information resources. |

| Four new science classes were added to the campus in spring 2004. The philosophy of the Science Department is to promote an understanding of the basic principals of science. After four years, the student will have an understanding of the basic order in nature and have an appreciation of the laws of the universe. Science courses are designed to meet the state standards and UC requirements. Courses starting with the freshman year are developed in a sequential fashion to encourage upper level courses in the future. |

The St. Francis High School sports complex contains a 1200-seat gymnasium and fully equipped fitness room. Physical education offerings include Dance, Karate, and Yoga, as well as more traditional P.E.
Inter-scholastic athletics are an integral part of the St. Francis High School education. St. Francis athletes value teamwork and understand that achievement comes through discipline, perseverance and commitment. They realize that respect for opponents is as important as individual and team success. Athletics enhance the positive climate and Christian experience at St. Francis High School and help to develop confident, respectful and determined women.
The gymnasium also accommodates the entire student body for rallies and liturgies and provides a venue for fundraising events, such as the annual Crab Feed and "A Taste of the Arts."
