2016-17 Basketball Highlights

  • The St. Francis basketball team was eliminated from the CIF Division I NorCal Regional quarterfinals with a 63-48 loss to No. 3 Heritage. No. 11 seed St. Francis opened NorCals with an 81-52 upset over No. 6 James Logan in the first round. The team finished with a 22-9 record.
  • St. Francis ranked among the top teams in the nation and state in three-pointers made (259, 16th in the nation, fifth in the state), three-pointers made per game (8.4, 4th in the state), assists (17.5, 29th in the nation and 7th) and scoring (64.3, 16th in the state)
  • St. Francis lost at Oak Ridge 65-48 in the Sac-Joaquin Section quarterfinals.  No. 6 seed St. Francis opened with a win over No. 11 Cosumnes Oaks.
  • St. Francis won the Delta League Championship for the second consecutive season and 14th overall in school history. The Troubadours recorded a 13-1 league record. Seniors Julia Razo and Fairbrook joined Nicolos on the All-Delta League First Team. St. Francis was represented by five players on the second team, including Jackie Koerwitz, Nika Bagatelos, Logan Kelly, Megan Austin and Lauren Pank.
  • Senior Julia Razo was named to the Sacramento Bee All-Metro third team and was an All-Delta league first team. She averaged a team-best 14.4 points in leading the team to the Delta League title and the NorCal Quarterfinals and Section quarterfinals. She scored a career-high 27 points against both Christian Brothers and Monterey Trail.
  • St. Francis was represented by three players on the honorable mention squad, including senior Janae Fairbrook, junior Marlee Nicolos and sophomore Jackie Koerwtiz.
  • Fairbrook averaged 13.7 points per game while breaking the school’s single-game and single-season three-point records. Koerwitz averaged 10.5 points and 4.6 rebounds in her second season with the varsity unit. She scored in double figures 12 times during the season, recording a pair of double-doubles. Nicolos scored 7.7 points per game while dishing out 3.5 assists and grabbing a team-best 8.2 rebounds per game.
  • Fairbrook had a big night against Grant, scoring a career-high 41 points while making a St. Francis school record 11 three-pointers, including 10 straight in the first half.  She was named Cal-Hi Girls NorCal Player of the week for her performance. She finished her career as the all-time three-point shooter in school history, setting the career (209), single-season (91) and single-game marks (11).
  • Razo scored a game-high tying 27 points to lead St. Francis to a 79-65 win over Christian Brothers in front of a sold out crowd of 1,200 fans in the annual Holy Hoops rivalry game.
  • The team shattered the school record for points in a game with 99-54 in a win over Monterey Trail.  The Troubies broke the school record of 94 points set vs. Ponderosa on Feb. 21, 2008 and it was just the fifth game of 90 points or better in school history.
  • Head Basketball Coach Vic Pitton was named the coach of the South team for the Optimist All-Star game. Pitton, who also coached the team in 2015, coached a group including seniors from St. Francis, Elk Grove, McClatchy, West Campus and Vanden. He won his 300th career game at the helm of the Troubadours with a 77-26 win over Pleasant Grove. He is in his 15th season as coach of the Troubadours.
  • Two players committed to play basketball in college: Razo (Dominican) and Fairbrook (Northern Arizona).
