2016 Track and Field Highlights

  • St. Francis had qualifiers in four events at the CIF Track and Field. Ariane Arndt advanced in the 800 meters for the third consecutive season, finishing third overall in a school-record 2:08.62, one of the top individual finishes in school history at the state meet. She finished the season ranked fifth in the state of California. Sophomore Sydney Vandegrift placed 12th in the 3200 meters in 10:41.49. St. Francis finished 30th overall with six points. Both the 4×100-meter and 4×400-meter relay teams advanced to the state meet.
  • The 4×400-meter relay team ranked fifth in the state with a season-best 3:45.49 that placed second at the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters meet. The team also placed second at the Delta League Championships and Sac-Joaquin Section meet and ninth at the CIF State Championships. The team included Arndt, Lilly Enes, Elizabeth Hennessy and Kiani Reyna with alternate Ava Nkadi.
  • The 4×100-meter relay team (Reyna, Arndt, Enes, Meaghan Rogers) won the Delta League title and SJS Masters title to advance to the state championships. They reset the school record again at 47.62 to finish in 11th place at the CIF State Championships.
  • Senior Ariane Arndt reset her own Sac-Joaquin Section meet record in winning the 400 meters and led two relays to team titles as the St. Francis track and field team shined at Elk Grove High School. St. Francis finished third overall in the team standings. Arndt, the defending champion in the 400 meters, ran a school-record breaking time of 54.87, shattering her mark of 55.39 set last season in the same race. Arndt finished her section career with six titles. The Troubadour relays won titles in both events.
  • St. Francis finished second at the Delta League Finals, scoring 106.5 points behind team champion Davis (195). The Troubies won two events, the 400 meters (Arndt) and 4×100-meter-relay.
  • The Troubadours broke three school records during the season. Arndt reset her own 400 and 800 meter records and the 4×100-meter relay reset a mark set in 2014.
  • St. Francis won three events at the Arcadia Invitational as senior Ariane Arndt captured the Open 800 meters, sophomore Sydney Vandegrift won the 3200-meter rated race Friday night and the 4×400-meter relay closed the meet with come-from-behind win.
  • Armdt was named the St. Francis Booster Club Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award winner.
  • Five student-athletes will continue their careers in college: Arndt (UC-Berkeley), Juliana Cerezo-Rangel (Sonoma State), Enes (Yale), Reyna (Sacramento State), Chase Worthen (Cal Poly)
