Soccer Goes 2-1-1 in Tri-Valley Classic

DANVILLE, Calif. – Sophomore Janae DeFazio provided the equalizer and senior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Hendrickson kept El Camino Real out of the goal to finish the Tri-Valley Classic with a 1-1 tie against El Camino Real at Sycamore Valley Park.

“The last two games – Foothill and El Camino Real – were fantastic opponents,” said Head Coach Maryclaire Robinson. “These last two games were a great test for us. It was team defense, we battled and we had to play faster. There is no doubt in my mind we are better this evening than this morning when we got here.”

Varsity Soccer Ties Rocklin 1-1

ROCKLIN, Calif. – Sophomore Janae DeFazio scored a late goal for the second consecutive game to salvage a tie at Rocklin on Tuesday night. DeFazio scored her fourth goal of the season in the 89th minute off a rebound off the cross bar. The ball was initially served by A.J. Tanner.

Rocklin’s Madeline Morrison gave the Thunder the lead in the 34th minute.

St. Francis (2-1) returns to action at Folsom on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 5:30 p.m.

Late Goal Completes Holy Cup Comeback

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis soccer team scored three unanswered goals to comeback and post a 3-2 win over Christian Brothers in the Holy Cup matchup at Hughes Stadium Thursday night.

“Amazing team effort and character,” said Head Coach Maryclaire Robinson. “I am very impressed especially under the conditions.”

Christian Brothers (5-1) scored early to take the lead in the contest and added a second goal early in the second half. Sophomore A.J. Tanner  got the Troubadours back in the game with a strong second half, scoring twice to tie the score.

Soccer Opens Season with a 5-1 Win over Rio

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Janae DeFazio scored twice and added an assist as the St. Francis varsity soccer team opened the 2017 season with a 5-1 win over Rio Americano.

“It is exciting,” said DeFazio. “There are a lot of new players. We were all a little nervous but once we got on the field we were connecting good.”

Soccer Team Named 2015-16 NSCAA High School Team Academic Award Recipient

SACRAMENTO, Calif.– The St. Francis soccer team was recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) with the 2015-16 High School Team Academic Award. The team had a 3.63 combined grade point average last spring.

The NSCAA annually recognizes high school soccer programs that have excelled in the classroom, in addition to their performance on the field. It is the second consecutive season the program has been honored with the distinguished award under the guidance of Head Coach Maryclaire Robinson.

2016 Soccer Highlights

  • St. Francis finished with a 14-4-4 overall record, losing to No. 4 Woodcreek in the Sac-Joaquin Section quarterfinals.  The Troubadours defeated Pitman 2-1 in the opening round.
  • St. Francis was 7-3-4 in Delta League play, finishing third overall in the team standings.
  • Senior Hailey Barrett led the team with 11 goals and six assists. Freshman Janae DeFazio added eight goals and a team-best eight assists.
  • The Troubie had three players selected to the All-Delta League team, including Barrett, Ashley Newland and junior Savannah Tijerino-Santos.

Swimmer Emily Bloom Named Valedictorian

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Four years ago Emily Bloom could never have envisioned giving a speech at graduation and she has no idea what she would have said. But after her experiences at St. Francis Catholic High School, she now has something to say.

“I could not have given a speech at Memorial Auditorium and I would not have had anything to say,” predicted Bloom of herself as a freshman.

Varsity Soccer Banquet — Senior Ashley Newland was named the Cornerstone award and Defensive MVP. Senior Ashley Newland was the Offensive MVP and senior goalie Meredith Kaeser was the Iron Women Award recipient. Junior Ari Avila was the Golden Boot winner.

Soccer Falls to Woodcreek in Section Quarterfinals

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – The St. Francis soccer team lost 2-0 to No. 4 seed Woodcreek in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I playoffs on Thursday.

“I thought we came out a little flat and they came out ready to go,” said Head Coach Maryclaire Robinson. “The first one was a little easy and we made some adjustments. We then had a game and had some good chances. We played them tight and the last one was poor housekeeping on our part.”

Soccer Advances in Section Playoffs with 2-1 Win over Pitman

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – It took falling behind late in the game to jump start the St. Francis offense but it was enough as the St. Francis prevailed 2-1 over Pitman Tuesday afternoon.

“They wanted to win and it looked like they wanted to win more than us at first,” said junior Taylor Simpkins. “We kicked it in and we knew we had to step it up. We did and we got it.”

St. Francis scored twice in the final six minutes to overcome a 1-0 deficit and advance to the Sac-Joaquin Section quarterfinals.

Soccer Garners No. 5 Seed in Section Playoffs

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis soccer team was awarded a No. 5 seed in the Sac Joaquin Section playoffs starting Tuesday, May 10. The Troubadours will host No. 12 Pitman at 4:00 p.m. at St. Francis.

Pitman, located in Turlock, won the Central California Conference with a 10-1-4 mark and went 15-6-5 overall. The Pride are led by Rayana Plancarte, who led the team with 21 goals and 14 assists.

St. Francis finished the regular season with a 13-3-4 record, including a 7-3-4 mark in the Delta League action to finish third overall

Soccer Closes Home State with Senior Game Win

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Ariana Avila dribbled almost the full length of the field and placed the ball in the net to give St. Francis an early lead in a 4-0 victory over Monterey Trail. The game was the final regular season home game for the season including the 13 seniors.

Soccer Posts 6-0 Win over Sheldon

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Meredith Cook and junior Taylor Simpkins each scored two goals to help St. Francis to a 6-0 win over Sheldon Monday night.

“I am pleased not just with the result but how the result happened,” said Head Coach Maryclaire Robinson. “We got really solid, effective play from a variety of people. It is one of the things we have been missing.”

Soccer Falls to Davis 1-0 on PK

DAVIS, Calif. – The St. Francis soccer team fell 1-0 to Davis Monday night in a hard fought battle between two of the best teams in the Delta League.

“This was a positive for me,” said Head Coach Maryclaire Robinson. “We played the best team in the league, lost 1-0 on a PK. Yes, we chased but quite frankly I thought our team defense was great. We played hard. That is all I can ask. We can walk out with our heads held high. I am looking forward.”

Cook to Play Soccer at Occidental College

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Meredith Cook will attend Occidental College and will play soccer for the Tigers.

“I am very excited, I think it is a great opportunity for me,” said Cook. “I have always enjoyed soccer and I have been playing since I was little. I’m glad I will get to continue playing especially in that environment. It is going to be a good fit for me.”

Soccer Wins 8-2 over Grant

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Freshman Lindsey Porter scored her first two career two goals as St. Francis posted an 8-2 win over Grant on Monday.  Overall, seven players scored in the game for the Troubadours.

“It felt good that we worked as a team,” said Porter. “We played good St. Francis soccer and played composed and simple on the ball. It felt good to finally finish my chances for goals.”
