Health and Safety Fair

Tuesday, April 8, 10am-1:30pm
Parents are welcome to attend (sign in at the front office).

Students will have an opportunity to explore different stations during lunch blocks or free blocks featuring a wide variety of health, safety and exercise information and hands-on presentations by community agencies.

  • Talk with Dan Haverty, representing the Folsom Fire Department. Mr. Haverty was the liver donor to Bishop Weigand.
  • Participate in exercise stations featuring dance, turbo jam (with our own staff leaders), sports fitness "stunts," hula hoops and games.
  • Visit with our special guest this day, Sr. Mary Elizabeth Lloyd, a member of the Religious Teachers Filipinni. Sister directs their missionary efforts around the world, especially focusing on mothers and children in need. She has a PhD in nutrition and is a life-long runner.

Thank you to Maggie Lloyd's parents, Dr. William Lloyd and Dr. Mary O'Hara for sponsoring Sr. Beth's travels to Sacramento.

During the Fair, Sr. Mary Elizabeth will be offering and signing her book, Aids Orphans Rising, for $10. She will also be joining us on April 9th to share her story at our Troubie Prayer Service.

Please email Mrs. Gaines in advance if you intend to purchase so we know how many books to purchase. Send cash or check with your daughter on April 8th.

Sister Mary Elizabeth Lloyd was born in Red Bank, New Jersey. At the age of eighteen, she entered the Institute of the Religious Teachers Filippini in Morristown, NJ. After completing her formation and education she taught elementary and high school science. After receiving her doctorate from Columbia University in Nutrition and Public Health, she worked at Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Center in New York. In 1994 Sister was appointed Secretary to Mother General and Mission Office Director for the Institute in Rome, Italy.

As Mission Office Director she has helped single mothers, women and girls at risk, and orphans. She has helped develop programs to aid Child Headed Households, i.e. brothers and sisters left orphaned by HIV/Aids, a work which now has become a priority for the Institute. Her experiences in Albania, Brazil, Ethiopia, Eritrea and India inspired the writing of Aids Orphans Rising. She is working not only to provide God's love, food, clothing, and an education for the children, but most of all to give these children a future of peace.
