Erin Matrenga
Assistant Cross Country Coach

Former Troubie Erin Matranga joined the St. Francis cross country staff for the 2016 season.

Matrenga ran collegiately at USC from 2011-14, earning Pac-12 All-Academic honors in 2012. She was a member of the Trojan Athletic Senate as the cross country team representative.

She graduated from St. Francis in 2011, participating on both the cross country and track and field teams. She placed 32nd at the CIF State Division I Championships in 18:30 as a senior.

Amy Sybesma
Cross Country/Track and Field Assistant Coach

Amy Sybesma is in her second season as an assistant coach at St. Francis. She joined the track and field staff during the 2016 season and will assist with cross country starting in 2016.

Sybesma ran four years of indoor and outdoor track at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich.. She competed in the high jump, 200 and  400 meters and relays. She was ranked 30th in the nation for DIII high jump in 2015.

St. Francis Cross Country Wins Bronco Invitational

FOLSOM, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country team  edged Clovis Nprth to take the team title at the Bronco Invitational at the Willow Hills Reservoir course Saturday morning. It was sixth meet win this season for the Troubadours.

“Today was a great matchup,” said assistant coach Mason Myers. “Clovis North is one of the top ranked teams in the state of California. We are pleased to go head-to-head with them  and have our girls run some very good performances.”

Cross Country Wins Second Meet of the Week

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Lauren LaRocco ran a personal-best for the third straight race to win The Other Meet title with a time of 16:56 to lead St. Francis to the overall team titles.

St. Francis scored a team-best 28 points to defeat Del Campo, Sierra, Dixon and McClatchy. The Troubadours had Miranda Myers place third overall in 17:50 and Camille Boudreaux cross the line fourth in 18:38. Ariel Medina was eighth in 19:28.

Chase Worthen was 13th overall and Mallory Shingle placed 15th.

LaRocco Breaks DRL Record

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior Lauren LaRocco ran a personal-best 17:18 at Granite Regional Park at the Delta River League meet to win the race in a course and league record time. St. Francis placed 1-2-3 with four in the top five and five in the top 10 to claim the race with 21 points.

“Madison was pushing me for the first mile and it is a relatively flat course,” said LaRocco. “It felt like a hard workout. It was nice with everyone cheering. There was a lot of support out there today.”

St. Francis Cross Country Fourth at Stanford Invite

PALO ALTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior Lauren LaRocco finished fourth overall to lead the St. Francis cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the Stanford Invitational Saturday on the Stanford Golf Course.

“It went pretty well,” said LaRocco. “It can be hard to feel your pace when there is such a big pack and especially in the beginning because everyone goes out fast. There was some really good competition so it was nice to run at Stanford. I think it helped us figure out where we are at and what we need to do by the end of the season.”

Cross Country Wins Yolo County Championship Title

WOODLAND, Calif. – In the first meeting between Sac-Joaquin section rivals, the St. Francis cross country team edged Davis Senior Saturday at the Yolo County Championships 42-49.

“We are very happy with the overall performance,” said assistant coach Mason Myers.

The Troubadours, ranked No. 3 in the state in the DyeStatCAL XC rankings, placed three runners in the top six overall to defeat the Blue Devils. Davis entered the meet No. 6 in the state rankings. It was the third consecutive team title for St. Francis in 2013.

Cross Country Wins Ed Sias Behind 1-2-3 Finish

MARTINEZ, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country team won the team title for the second consecutive meet winning the large school girls title at the Ed Sias Invitational held at Hidden Valley Lakes Park in Martinez Saturday. The Troubadours crossed the line 1-2-3 and placed each of their top five runners in the first 22 finishers in the race.

Cross Country Remains in Top 10; Defends Ed Sias Title Saturday

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country team is listed in the top 10 of two state-wide rankings released this week. The Troubadours are a season-high second behind Simi Valley in the DyeStatCAL Cross Country Ranking after starting at No. 3 overall and are No. 7 in PrepCalTrack’s Super 25 Girls Teams and No. 1 in the Sac-Joaquin section.

The Troudadours opened the season by winning the Oakmont Invitational. They return to action this Saturday at the Ed Sias Invitational in Martinez., Calif. The meet will be held at Hidden Lakes Park.

Cross Country Wins Oakmont Invitational; LaRocco Defends Title

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country program had a strong opening meet, taking a pair of team and individual titles at the Oakmont Invitational at Maidu Park.

Senior Lauren LaRocco won the individual title for the second consecutive season with a career-best 14:02 over the 4-kilometer course.

“I am glad I have improved since last year,” said LaRocco. “The course felt short and that is good because we will be moving up to 5K. It was still a lot flatter than most of the courses we will run so it was good to ease into some of the hills.”

Cross Country Garners Second National Ranking

SACRMAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country team is ranked 15th in the nation in the DyeStat.com Preseason National Girls Cross Country Top 120 released on Friday. The Troubadours were also highlighted by the NHSCA with a No. 11 ranking in their national preseason poll released earlier in August.

St. Francis Cross Country Opens Season at Oakmont Invitational

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The nationally-ranked St. Francis cross country team will open the 2013 season at the Oakmont Invitational held at Maidu Park in Roseville on Saturday, Aug. 30.

The Troubadours will field three teams in the event, including varsity, junior varsity and freshmen/sophomore squads. The freshmen/sophomore race begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by the varsity girls at 9:30 a.m. and junior varsity girls at 10:30 a.m.

St. Francis Cross Country Earns National Preseason Ranking

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis High School cross country team led by Head Coach John DuCray is ranked 11th in the 2013 National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) Girls Pre-Season Cross Country Team Rankings announced by XCNation.com.
“We are thrilled to be ranked in the NHSCA preseason poll,” said DuCray, who has coached at St. Francis for 37 years. “It is a tribute to our student-athletes. We are going to try to be the best in California and it is a nice recognition for a program on the rise.”
