Next Tuesday is Valentine’s Day, a day when we celebrate love, devotion and romance; but did you know that this is the feast day of St. Valentine of Rome? Valentine is believed to have lived in the third-century Rome and was imprisoned for marrying Christian couples and aiding Christians being persecuted by the emperor Claudius. He was executed after refusing to renounce his Christian faith. St. Valentine is the Patron Saint of bee keepers, engaged couples, epilepsy, fainting, greetings, happy marriages, love, lovers, plague, travellers, and young people. He is represented in pictures with birds and roses and his feast day is celebrated on February 14th. (http://www.catholic.org/saints/saint.php?saint_id=159) St. Valentine, pray for us!
