Return to School Message from the Principal

Email blast

Dear St. Francis Families,

The Sacramento County Health Officer published a revised health order yesterday, October 13, 2020, that gave all schools (and all grade levels) in the county permission to return to in-person instruction. Schools conducting in-person instruction must maintain mitigation measures, including physical distancing, face coverings, and sanitization, in compliance with school guidance from the California Department of Public Health.

Given this most recent Sacramento County health order, and with the county remaining on the Red Tier 2 designation for the second consecutive week, we will begin to phase in our students’ return to campus.

The transition from the current distance learning model to our proposed hybrid learning model is multi-faceted and will require time to successfully make the transition for all involved. As such, we will phase this transition to ensure our faculty/staff and students can adjust accordingly in order to acclimate to the COVID-19 safety protocols on campus. Again, it is imperative that all faculty/staff and students adhere to county guidelines to safeguard and protect all from inadvertent exposure.

The following is the proposed schedule for our safe return to campus:

  • Monday, 10/19: Small groups of students needing support services will be on-campus from 8:00am to 2:00pm for distance learning, with assistance from St. Francis staff.
  • Tuesday, 10/20: Small groups of students needing support services will be on-campus from 8:00am to 2:00pm for distance learning, with assistance from St. Francis staff.
  • Wednesday, 10/21: Faculty office hours/Student flex day
  • Thursday, 10/22: The Sophomore Class may return to campus from 8:00am to 2:00pm for distance learning and familiarization to our new safety protocols and preventive measures.
  • Friday, 10/23: The Freshman Class may return to campus from 8:00am to 2:00pm for distance learning and familiarization to our new safety protocols and preventive measures.
  • Monday, 10/26: The Junior Class may return to campus from 8:00am to 2:00pm for distance learning and familiarization to our new safety protocols and preventive measures.
  • Tuesday, 10/27: The Senior Class may return to campus from 8:00am to 2:00pm for distance learning and familiarization to our new safety protocols and preventive measures.
  • Wednesday, 10/28: Faculty office hours/Student flex day
  • Thursday and Friday, 10/29 and 10/30: Students continue distance learning from home while teachers are on-campus preparing for Hybrid instruction the following week.
  • Monday, 11/02: Begins our Red/Gold Hybrid Schedule.

Your daughter’s physical return to campus at this time is optional.   If your daughter or the family chooses not to have her come to campus, she will continue all classes via distance learning. If she plans to continue distance learning once we move to the hybrid schedule on November 2nd, you must notify our Dean of Students, Cynthia Cost, at ccost@stfrancishs.org as soon as possible.

We are currently working on testing and screening procedures prior to student return on campus and will provide further details in the near future.

Additional information about the Red/Gold Cohorts will be forthcoming and communicated to each student/household via an individual email message. We reviewed more than 700 individual cohort requests and made every effort possible to accommodate as many requests as possible; however, in order to limit class sizes to 15, balance the number of students across cohorts, grade levels, and classes, we simply could not satisfy every request. Due to the complex nature of the process, we will not be able to make any changes to cohorts at this time.

We genuinely care about providing our Troubies with a positive experience returning to campus after being away for the past seven months. We are excited to begin bringing everyone back. We will proceed with caution, and look forward to seeing our students back on campus soon.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me directly. I am grateful for your continued support and making the best of these unimaginable times.

St. Francis of Assisi, pray for us!
St. Clare of Assisi, pray for us!
