Updates for Seniors and Families
May 14, 2020
It was great to see all of you at the Pearl Pick-up Parade last Friday! Photo albums have been posted on the Senior page. Thank you to all of our photographers that helped capture the special day: Phil Roina, Greg Lane, Julia Cannon ’17, Steve Shaff, and Raquel Namba! It is exciting to see so many new things on the calendar to celebrate our seniors.
Here is some new information about some other end-of-year events that are getting firmed up:
The Farewell Prayer Service is tomorrow, Friday, May 15th at 5:00pm on our website (the prerecorded prayer service will remain available on the site after). This prayer service will celebrate the Pearls and their Honor Guards. In addition, a few retiring staff members will be acknowledged. No Farewell Mass or Prayer service would be complete without the SFHS Choir’s rendition of “At The Beginning.” Grab a tissue!
Seniors, Guidance is hosting one more ELEDEF of the year tomorrow, Friday, May 15 from 11:00-11:30am, but this time ELEDEF stands for Every Lunch, Every Day, ESPECIALLY Friday! Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Austin, and Ms. Lee will be hanging out in a zoom meeting in case you have any last-minute questions about college acceptances, waitlists, scholarship applications, final transcripts – anything and everything! Please check your email for the zoom link Mrs. Austin sent earlier today.
Bishop Soto will preside at a live-streamed Mass in honor and celebration of ALL graduates from the Class of 2020 on Sunday, May 17 at 5:00pm from the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. This Mass will include student representatives from each of the Catholic High School Communities in our Diocese participating in the appropriate liturgical ministries.
#TroubieHeroes in Healthcare Webinar: Thursday, May 21st at 2:00pm
As the newest members of the 11,000-strong SFHS Alumnae community, graduates are invited to meet some #TroubieHeroes for a virtual discussion about how COVID-19 has impacted our frontline healthcare workers across the country! Join us as we speak with alumna Anna Ryan ’89 RN at Sutter General Hospital in Sacramento in the Emergency Department; Addie Wallace ’15 RN at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania; and MaryAnn Dakkak ’00 at Family Medicine-Obstetrics at Boston University Medical Center. Click here to RSVP. Questions: Please contact Becky Iverson, Alumnae Associate.
Sacramento Kings Celebrate Graduates: Thursday, May 21, 2020 at 8:00pm
Join the Sacramento Kings on May 21, 2020 for a virtual event celebrating the hard work and success of the graduating class of 2020, their families, and their communities. RSVP now for your chance to be entered to win special prizes and get a special congratulatory shout out (or give one to your favorite grad)! Click here for more information.
Senior Awards e-Ceremony: This was an incredibly accomplished senior class! Join us as we celebrate their hard work and successes. The senior awards e-ceremony will be presented on Friday, May 22nd at 5:00pm on our website. Links to the ceremony will be shared in next week’s email.
Senior Sunset will be celebrated on the original graduation date of Thursday, May 28. The event will be on campus drive-in theater style! Senior Council is continuing to plan and more details will be sent out next week.
The Baccalaureate Mass for the St. Francis Catholic High School Class of 2020 is scheduled for July 22 at 8 am and Graduation is scheduled for July 23 at 8:00am. Both will be held on the St. Francis campus. More details will follow as we get closer to the date. Thank you for your understanding and patience.
In the planning: Plans for Senior Ball are currently being discussed with an event possibly happening mid to late July. We are working with the Jesuit Retreat Center to plan a summer Kairos, possibly in July. We will keep you posted as plans develop. Thank you for your continued patience.
Although our options remain limited until social distancing practices change and public health officials lift orders currently in place, we are working to create meaningful experiences that honor the hard work and accomplishments of your daughters. All of these “reimagined” plans are dependent on the mandates of federal/state and public health officials and the safety of our students, families and the school community.
Important Reminders for Seniors:
Senior Parking Spots Seniors DO NOT need to paint over their parking spaces in the student lot. One more thing to check off the list!
Textbook Buy Backs BNC (Formally MBS) will still be buying back textbooks from our students. Families can sell their books through the BNC website and use a free shipping label to return their books. The SFHS Website has step-by-step instructions on how to sell back books. Once a Buyback quote is created, the books must be mailed back to BNC within two weeks. To avoid forfeiting Guaranteed Buyback values, only create a quote for books you physically have in your possession.
Yearbook The 2019-2020 yearbooks are scheduled to be shipped to St. Francis in June. Once they arrive, a date will be set for students to receive them. More details will be shared in upcoming Senior email communications.
Troubie Store Senior families will be emailed an order form for SF logo items for graduation/alumnae next week. Curbside pickup schedule will be the week of May 25th.
Don’t forget to fill out the College Admission Decisions Form, the Scholarships and Grants Form, and the College of Choice Form. Please help us collect this important data. Ask your daughter if she has completed these google forms, and encourage her to do so if she hasn’t completed them yet. We don’t want anyone’s name left out of the Senior Awards Ceremony or Graduation programs if they have received a scholarship or grant from any of the colleges to which they applied (not just the college they will be attending). Feel free to contact Debbie Austin firstname.lastname@example.org if you need help or have any questions.
Please complete the Google Form for your Baccalaureate Mass Symbol. The link was sent out by Campus Ministry last week. Select a symbol representative of your time here at St. Francis to bring up during the Baccalaureate Mass Procession.
Expect to receive another email update from us next week with additional information. Remember, all information and communications sent about senior events is available at www.stfrancishs.org/seniors. Please bookmark this page and use it as your “homebase” for senior happenings!
