Updates for Seniors and Families
May 21, 2020
Greetings Seniors and Senior Families!
We’re excited to share the Senior Awards e-Ceremony with you tomorrow! Join us at 5:00pm on Friday, May 22nd via our website to celebrate the hard work and successes of the Class of 2020! The awards and scholarships honored tomorrow consist of national recognitions, donor-sponsored scholarships, and St. Francis’ highest honors: the pillar awards of Faith, Excellence, Leadership and Service as well as the Pax et Bonum Award.
We can’t help but think how next week was supposed to be the Baccalaureate Mass and Graduation. While those events have been postponed, we’ve still got a way to honor what would have been their graduation date on May 28th. Let the celebrating continue!
Sacramento Kings Celebrate Graduates Tonight: Thursday, May 21, 2020 at 8:00pm
Join the Sacramento Kings tonight (May 21, 2020) at 8:00 pm for a virtual event celebrating the hard work and success of the graduating class of 2020, their families, and their communities. They will have special performances, entertainment hosted by Kings emcee Scott Freshour and some surprise celebrity guests! RSVP now for your chance to be entered to win special prizes and get a special congratulatory shout out (or give one to your favorite grad)! Click here for more information.
The sun will not set on the Class of 2020 without an opportunity for our Troubies to experience it together (in COVID-appropriate style). Senior Sunset will be celebrated on Thursday, May 28. Gates open at 7:45pm for this drive-in theater style event on SF’s soccer field (in the same area where Senior Sunrise was held.) Please click here to RSVP.
This is the Class of 2020’s time to gather and look back, and then forward, and proudly exclaim: “We are the Pearls!” Seniors will receive their senior t-shirt plus a few other fun surprises! Just like the drive-ins, the audio will be broadcast through your FM radio dial. Don’t forget to decorate your car! At 7:45pm, the gates will open for you to enter through the cell phone lot gate. Parking attendants will direct you out onto the field and will lead cars out starting at 8:30pm.
Parents: This event is limited to SFHS Class of 2020 students ONLY! This is an “in-car” only event (see FAQs). Vehicles with more than one student will not be allowed to enter. We will adhere to the safety guidelines of Sacramento County and all Covid-19 social distancing requirements will be in effect. Families must determine individually if their daughter can participate in this way.
Don’t Miss this Exciting Photo Opportunity at Golden1 Center!
A special SFHS Class of 2020 congratulatory message will be displayed on the outdoor screens at the Golden1 Center beginning on Thursday, May 28th through midday on May 30th.
The Baccalaureate Mass for the St. Francis Catholic High School Class of 2020 is scheduled for July 22 at 8 am and Graduation is scheduled for July 23 at 8:00am. Both will be held on the St. Francis campus. More details will follow as we get closer to the date. Thank you for your understanding and patience. Last chance for Pearls to complete the Google Form for your Baccalaureate Mass Symbol. Select a symbol representative of your time here at St. Francis to bring up during the Baccalaureate Mass Procession.
In the planning: Plans for Senior Ball are currently being discussed with an event possibly happening mid to late July. We are working with the Jesuit Retreat Center to plan a summer Kairos, possibly in July. We will keep you posted as plans develop. Thank you for your continued patience.
Although our options remain limited until social distancing practices change and public health officials lift orders currently in place, we are working to create meaningful experiences that honor the hard work and accomplishments of your daughters. All of these “reimagined” plans are dependent on the mandates of federal/state and public health officials and the safety of our students, families and the school community.
The Farewell Prayer Service is available on our website in case you missed it last week. We celebrated the Pearls and their Honor Guards and got to see the SFHS Choir’s rendition of “At The Beginning.”
All of the photos from the Pearl Pick-up Parade are now available!
Click here to see the full album on Dropbox. Thank you to all of our photographers that helped capture the special day: Phil Roina, Greg Lane, Julia Cannon ’17, Steve Shaff, and Raquel Namba! It is exciting to see so many new things on the calendar to celebrate our seniors.
SFHS LOVE LOCKS
Looking for a way to honor your daughter and leave her mark on the St. Francis campus? Introduced last year was the addition of commemorative Love Locks. All locks are customized to recognize your Troubie. Commemorative locks can be purchased HERE. We will be dedicating the St. Francis Love Locks and hanging them on the new fencing surrounding our Canticle Garden before the Homecoming Rally on November 8th. Don’t miss your chance to “Leave Your Heart at SF!” Purchase HERE.
Senior Parking Spots
Seniors DO NOT need to paint over their parking spaces in the student lot. One more thing to check off the list!
Textbook Buy Backs
BNC (Formally MBS) will still be buying back textbooks from our students. Families can sell their books through the BNC website and use a free shipping label to return their books. The SFHS Website has step-by-step instructions on how to sell back books. Once a Buyback quote is created, the books must be mailed back to BNC within two weeks. To avoid forfeiting Guaranteed Buyback values, only create a quote for books you physically have in your possession.
The 2019-2020 yearbooks are scheduled to be shipped to St. Francis in June. Once they arrive, a date will be set for students to receive them. More details will be shared in upcoming Senior email communications.
We will post the link with the order form for SF logo items on the Senior page as soon as it’s available.
Check out the “Pearl Spotlight” on Facebook and Instagram. From now until graduation, we will be sharing a little about our Seniors. Pearl Spotlights will be in no particular order, so keep checking back to see who will be next. If you miss any, you can always view here on the Senior page of the website. #graduatingwomenwhochangetheworld #classof2020 #seniorspotlight2020 #SFHS2020Pearls
While times are tough, we think it’s also important to recognize the “silver linings” that situations like these bring to light. We are certainly blessed to be members of a Catholic community and appreciate the blessings God continues to bring into our lives even amid this calamity. If possible, we would like to hear from you on the “good things” that have come out of this quarantine. If you can send pictures, that would be great, as I would love to share them on our social media platforms.
