2014 Water Polo Highlights

  • St. Francis advanced to the Sac-Joaquin Division I Section Finals before losing to Delta League and section rival Davis. The Troubadours went 17-11 on the season with a 2-1 mark in league play.
  • Charter was named the team’s Most Valuable Player She scored a team-best 55 goals and 78 points to lead the Troubadours to the CIF Sac-Joaquin Division I finals for the third consecutive season. A two-time USA Water Polo Academic All-American, she earned all-section and All-Delta League first-team honors in 2014. She finished her career with 109 career goals and will compete for California next fall.
  • Charter was named to the 2014-15 NISCA/Speedo Girls All-America Water Polo third team.
  • Charter was named to the CIF Sac-Joaquin All-Section water polo first- team for the second consecutive season and was among four Troubadours overall earning section honors. Julie Zanobini joined Charter on the all-section first team, while Maggie oys and Jennalyn Barthels were second-team sections.
  • Five players earned All-Delta League status, including Charter, Julie Zanobini, Jennalyn Barthels, Maggie Oys and Caroline Urkov. Kira Chavez received the Delta League Sportsmanship Award.
  • Seven St. Francis water polo players earned Academic All-America honors from USA Water Polo. Student-athletes needed a 3.6 GPA on a scale of 4.0 to qualify, while those that received a 4.0 GPA were honored as outstanding achievers. Senior Lauren Charter garnered Academic All-America honors with outstanding achievement designation for qualifying with a 4.0 GPA or better for the second consecutive season. Juniors Maggie Oys and Caroline Urkov joined Charter with the elite distinction. Juniors Kira Chavez, Madalyn Lavezzo, Sam Reinl, and Julie Zanobini were also named Academic All-America honorees.
  • The Troubadours were coached by former Olympian and USA Water Polo Player of the Year Heather Moody in her second season.
