Athletic News – 3/18/22

Coming off one of its most significant wins in recent history, the St. Francis kicks off a stretch of seven straight home games with Friday night’s varsity-only game against Roseville. The Troubies also host Oak Ridge (Wednesday) and Bella Vista (Friday) next week. A make-up date for last week’s canceled matchup at Davis is also being finalized. Once set, the schedule update will appear on social media and at the website.

Speaking of lacrosse, please wish senior goalkeeper Bella McCullough the best of luck this weekend: she is trying out for Team Mexico, or La Federación Mexicana de Lacrosse, one of 30 teams that will compete at the 2022 Women’s World Lacrosse Championship in Maryland this summer.

The two spring aquatics teams also return to home action on Wednesday with a Delta League dual against Elk Grove. The swimmers kick off their action at Jesuit Aquatic Center at 3:30 p.m. while the divers take on the Herd at their Capital Divers home pool at 4 p.m.

Finally, the track & field teams return to full action this weekend at Sheldon’s Husky Invitational while a cadre of runners will compete in the 1,600 at the Dublin Distance Fiesta. These two meets lead into next week’s home opener: the annual Holy Spikes dual meet with Christian Brothers, starting at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One of our highlights of the young season so far is the performance of pole vaulter Maddie Pelfrey, who continues her march toward Meghan Ladd’s 2018 school record of 12-feet-0.
