Get to Know: Softball’s #7 Alexis Assad

News

Q&A with Softball Senior Alexa Assad  - Alexis Assad is in her second year in the softball program. She transferred to St. Francis for her sophomore season from Pleasant Grove. She will be attending San Francisco State next fall and plans study economics based on inspiration from Mr. Pitton. She also played competitive soccer prior to St. Francis. She has a dog, Allie.

What is Alexis’ story?
“My first 16 years of my life I played soccer. I transferred here from Pleasant Grove. I met Mary Baccay on my first day and she encouraged me tryout for softball. I was skeptical because I had not played since I was eight. I loved it. It has been my high school sport.”

How have you enjoyed St. Francis?
“I love it. It is a great environment here and the teachers are great. The girls are so welcoming and inviting. I have met my best friends here. I love playing softball. The coaches are great and the players help and encourage you every way they can. I appreciate the coaching staff. They are people I look up to. The coaches are all great guys and encourage us to do our best and get out there. I hope we can live up to what they want.”

What has been your favorite moment with the team?
“The trip to Fresno was really great. I never been with a high school team that traveled like that. It was great to stay in the hotel with my teammates and go out for team dinners and spend time in the van. We had three hours each way so we had time to kill.”

What are your college plans?
“I just accepted my admission to San Francisco State. It was not always my first choice (Arizona) but parents thought I would not be able to handle the heat. I love the cold. So they encouraged me to find somewhere closer. I have been going to San Francisco since I was three years old. It feels like my second home. It came to me I should go to a place I love.”

What are your goals for the rest of the season and the team?
“My goals are to get better. Since it is not my first sport and I am not an amazing player. I want to learn from my teammates and take away from what they teach me. For my team, I hope that we continue to grow together and be a close to help us go as far as we can.”
