Please join us Friday, October 18th in bringing awareness to human trafficking.  Sometimes it doesn’t seem like one person can make much of a difference.  However, we can all work together to bring awareness to this issue.  And the more people who know about it, the more likely it is that some victims will be rescued.

We will be spreading awareness in three ways.  The first is the St. Francis version of the Walk for Freedom.  We will be taking a short walk through campus on Friday, Oct 18th during community lunch.  If you are interested in participating in the walk, please meet at the gym doors at the very beginning of community lunch.  This will only take 10-20 minutes of your lunch block.

Another way you can bring attention to this issue is by wearing a black shirt on Friday even if you don’t walk and then telling everyone that you are wearing it to bring attention to these modern day slaves.  (Even better would be to wear a black shirt and walk with us).   It has to be an approved shirt like your Zoo t-shirt or, for seniors, a college t-shirt or sweatshirt.

Finally, you can help by wearing an armband with the name of a specific human trafficking survivor.  (You can look in the CLC or check out the large bulletin board to find a survivor you want to honor). The materials will be available in the CLC starting at 7:30 a.m. on Friday for those of you willing to do this.  Drop by any time before lunch!

Thank you so much for whatever actions you are willing to take to bring awareness to and combat human trafficking!  Your efforts DO make a difference!

P.S. Our version of the walk is a copy of the international walk of the same name.  If you wish to participate in that to make an even bigger impact, it will be taking place this Saturday, October 19th in downtown Sacramento.  You can get more information here: https://www.a21.org/content/walk-home/gpsgiw.

We will recognize all college commitments (Walk-ons, Ivy League schools) not just scholarship-offered student-athletes. If you plan to accept an offer to participate in collegiate athletics, at any level and in any sport, we are interested in including you in this event. We understand that some prospects have yet to come to an agreement with a school and/or have yet to decide where to commit. We will hold an identical event with the late signing date in April.
