CRS Rice Bowl is a Catholic Relief Services’ Lenten program for faith communities in the United States who want to put their faith into action. SFHS is invited to learn about our brothers and sisters in need around the world, and devote our Lenten prayers, fasting, and resources to change the lives of those who suffer in poverty. As a community, Troubies observe the Lenten pillars of praying, fasting, and giving in the following ways:
- School-wide daily prayer, written by the Ministry Leadership Class.
- Sharing what we are fasting from or working on during Lent. This is an activity done through Theology classes.
- Giving to CRS Rice Bowl throughout Lent in the following ways: Ash Wednesday offertory collection, weekly homeroom collections, and Penny Wars (March 6-March 15).
As a CRS Platinum Global High School, our support of the CRS Rice Bowl program funds projects in the following areas: agriculture, water and sanitation, micro-finance for the creation of small businesses, education resources and training, and child and maternal health programs in developing countries. Twenty-five percent of our community’s contribution stays in the Diocese of Sacramento to aid in local hunger and poverty programs.
Please encourage your daughter to be as generous as possible through her small weekly sacrifices. To learn more about the CRS Rice Bowl program, visit www.crsricebowl.org.
