Safety Awareness – Fentanyl

News Cynthia Cost Kymberly Weinandy

During the recent student/parent events, overview information was given about some of the drugs and issues the students are being exposed to.

One of which was Fentanyl (including use in Vapes). While we have not had a case on campus, law enforcement has advised that it is only a matter of time that our students will be exposed to this deadly drug (if they haven’t been already). The lethalness of this drug and the recent death of a Roseville teen make it an important discussion for parents and their daughters.

Fentanyl is an extremely potent synthetic opioid. Fentanyl is appearing as — colorful pills (similar to skittles) and powders that look like candy or sidewalk chalk. It has even been found inside other candies and vapes. Fentanyl is as much as 100 times stronger than morphine. Just a few milligrams —the size of salt grains — can be enough to kill.
