Basketball Falls on Buzzer Beater at Davis

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Kelsey Forrester hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to give Davis a 53-50 win over St. Francis on Monday night. It was the first Delta League loss for the Troubies.

“Our lack of effort in the first half and mistakes defensively, not sticking to the game plan, gave them three baskets and had another bounce off our hands,” said Head Coach Vic Pitton. “Davis played hard and knew they needed this game. I tried to express that to our team.”

St. Francis fell behind at the half 28-20 and were behind double digits in the third quarter before rallying.

The Troubies limited Davis to eight points in the third as Gabi Lopez and Jorie Keitges fueled the comeback.

“Gabi came off the bench and played solid defense,” said Pitton. “She made some nice cut to the basket and got that going. She was a big factor tonight in getting us going.”

Lopez scored two baskets and Keitges added a pair of three pointers.

The game went down to the wire with Logan Kelly, who finished with 10 points, put SF up 48-47. Davis then hit a three and Marlee Nicolos tied it again at 50 with a driving layup. Korrester’s three bounded off the back rim and up before dropping.

St. Francis will be on the road again on Wednesday at Elk Grove.
