Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Results

STOCKTON, Calif. – The St. Francis golf team finished fourth overall at the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Tournament with a 417 team score, missing a top-three qualification for the CIF NorCals by three strokes.

“That is golf. It has its ups and downs,” said Head Coach Bert Jones. “They played OK and we failed to advance by three strokes. It goes to show every shot does matter.”

The Troubadours had a record-breaking year, posting an undefeated record in Delta League play on the way to the team title. But SF was edged by Granite Bay (365), Oak Ridge (392) and Pleasant Grove (414) for the chance to play for a state tournament berth next week at Sierra View CC.

“The season was great,” said Allen. “We went undefeated. We have all shot our averages until this tournament. It was a really fun season for me and I played my heart out to today and tried my best.”

Junior Patricia Sweeney led the team again with a team-best 80. Sophomore Nashla Aguero carded the second-best round with an 83, while junior Olivia Alcoran had an 84.

Senior Chase Saca posted an 85 in her last competitive round.

“I was very excited to have such a tight-knit team,” said Saca of her experience this year. “We have all grown really close and we will all miss each other. I am going to remember my team. They are my best friends and I have spent after school with them for long hours. I will remember the relationships and the competition.”

Senior Lauren Allen closed her career with an 86. She will sign to play golf in college next week at Missouri S&T on Signing Day on Nov. 8

“For Chase and Lauren they improved significantly from last year to this year,” said Jones. “I am sorry to see them go because we would like to have them back.”

Sophomore Ceci Fletcher provided the highlight of the day with a hole-in-one, the second recorded by a Troubie this season. Saca had one in a Center Match earlier this year.

“At first I was in denial,” said Ceci after hitting her pitching wedge in the hole on the fourth hole from 106 yards. “There was no way that it went in. It is a moment I have been waiting for quite some time. Today was the day.”

Jones and the Troubies will say goodbye to four seniors overall including Lauren Liberatore and Adrienne Graybill.

“The seniors add the fun, excitement the energy to the team,” said Fletcher. “I am going to miss them next year. I hope they go on to do what they dream to do.”

The golf banquet will be held in the New Dining Hall on campus on Thursday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m.
