Golf Season Ends at Masters with Sixth-Place Finish

STOCKTON, Calif. – The St. Francis golf team shot a 459 team score to finish sixth at the Sac-Joaquin Masters Monday at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton. The Troubadours failed to advance to the NorCal Championships, the third round of the sections playoffs.

“We have a younger team and it was a team that required everyone to play well to advance,” said Head Coach Cindy Mah-Lyford. “We got to Masters and it was good accomplishment. It was a very good season. It is nice to judge our season by how far we get but everyone gave so much effort and worked so hard. That has got to define our season.”

Junior Kate Swanson and freshman Chase Saca tied for team-best honors with rounds of 88. Junior Kristi Lee carded a 92, while senior Victoria Ramirez had a 95 in the final high school round. Lyford said Ramirez will be missed next season.

“She brought a quiet confidence to the team,” said Lyford. “The players looked up to her because of her calmness.”

Ramirez was a three-year member of the varsity team. She carded a person-best three-over par 39 against Monterey Trail on Oct. 13.

Junior Mikia Fang posted a 96 and freshman Lauren Allen recorded a 107 in the final event of the season.

Oak Ridge won the event with a 420, while Davis (427) and Turlock (437) finished second and third, respectively, earning one of the three spots into NorCals. Emilee Hoffman of Vista del Lago shot a 70 to lead four individual qualifiers.

Eleven of the 12 players on the roster have the opportunity to return in 2015, giving the Troubadours a an experienced roster a year from now.
