SACRAMENTO, Calif.  - St. Francis Head Coach Vic Pitton won his 300th career game at the helm of the Troubadours tonight with a 77-26 win over Pleasant Grove. He is in his 15th season as coach of the Troubadours.

“I appreciate the opportunities I have had and the great teams I have had the privilege to coach,” said Pitton. “The number is just a number. Each one of the victories and the losses has provided a special memory.”

Assistant Coach Maren Christie was on his first team and was part of the victory on the bench today.

St. Francis (6-6) jumped out to a 16-7 lead in the opening quarter and kept the Eagles in single digits for each quarter. Senior Julia Razo scored nine of her 16 points in the opening quarter to pace the Troubadours early in the game.

“I saw tremendous sharing of the ball and an execution on offense we have not seen in a while,” said Pitton. “Our fast break kicked in with some nice passes and defensively we got after it. We got a lot of steals and deflections to wreak havoc on them.”

St. Francis got the offense going even more in the second with the help of the defense. Sophomore Jackie Koerwitz had 10 points in the quarter (16 for the game) and senior Janae Fairbrook hit two three-pointers as part of an eight-point quarter. She finished with a team-best 17 points after hitting three triples in the third.

“It feels really good,” said Razo. “It is almost an awakening for us to get back on track and play the way St. Francis plays. We stepped up our defense and shared the ball more as a team.”

The Troubadours extended the lead in the fourth with Lauren Pank and Megan Austin each contributing four points. Sophomore Jorie Keitges hit her second three to finish with six points, while Izzy Quiniola scored three points off the bench.

“It was a cleansing game that we really needed,” said Pitton. “We almost got everybody back healthy. We are back on track.”

St. Francis hosts its second home game of the week on Friday against Davis at 7 p.m. The JV team (12-0) opens the night at 5:30 p.m. Both games are on TroubieTV.
