Swim Opens Delta League with Wins over Sheldon and Grant

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis swimming and diving team opened the season with two dual meet wins over Sheldon and Grant Wednesday at Jesuit High School.

The Troubadours won six of eight individual events and all three relays to start the season on a high note. Senior Emily Bartylla won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:05.14 and took the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:12.10. Sophomore Kaitlyn Back won the 50 freestyle in 27.88, while junior Tami Rodriguez won the 100 free in 1:02.92. Senior Leanna Castro touched the wall first in the 100 butterfly (1:12.79) and Malia Arnott won the 500 freestyle.

In the 200 medley relay, the foursome of Arnott, Bartylla, Rodriguez and Back clocked 2:04.33. Rodriguez and Bartylla both combined with Castro and Emma Daniels to take the 400 yard freestyle to end the meet. In the 200-yard free, sophomore Kate Watley joined Arnott, Maddie Brown and Emma Daniels to take first.

St. Francis competes at the American River Invitational on Friday and Saturday at ARC.
