Sac-Joaquin Section Playoff Bracket

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team, the top seed in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I bracket, advanced with an 8-1 win over McClatchy Wednesday at Rio del Oro Racquet Club.

“I am really proud of the way the girls played, especially being in the middle of Homecoming week,” said Head Coach Kristi Spector. “I wanted them to play their game and not get caught up in another person’s game.”

The Troubadours won five of six singles matches, getting wins by Adithi Benush (No. 2), Alisha Anwar (No. 3), Kyla Jackson (No. 4), Marisa Fat (No. 5) and Kiya Jackson (No. 6).

“Every team in the playoffs is super strong and we knew they were going to be really good coming in,” said senior Marisa Fat. “We set our minds to staying focused and moving our feet. We came out with the win and it was awesome.”

St. Francis (16-0) swept the doubles led by top duo Cameron Parra and Izzy Asker at No. 1. They defeated Michelle Vang and Megumi Willis 6-3, 6-1.

“Izzy played great but I got off to a slow start,” said Cameron Parra. “I had to really slow down and it was a different strategy.”

Alex Evans and Bianca Ariza combined for a straight set win at No. 2, while Peyton Spellacy and Sam Sonntag were winners at No. 3.

St. Francis will host fourth-seeded Davis on Tuesday at 2 p.m. The Blue Devils defeated No. 5 Gregori 8-1. Others winners on Wednesday included No. 3 Oak Ridge over No. 11 Enochs 8-1 and No. 2 Del Oro over St. Mary’s 8-1. Del Ori and Oak Ridge will play to face the winner of the St. Francis-Davis match on Thursday, Nov. 9 at a neutral site.
