SACRAMENTO, Calif.  – The St. Francis tennis team defeated rival Franklin 8-1 on Thursday at Rio del Oro Racquet Club to remain undefeated in Delta League play.

“It is a great victory and it is always competitive at the top part of the ladder,” said Spector of the match with Franklin. “We never know (how the match will turn out). We played our top lineup and everyone as hard as they could. In the end we had a great victory.”

The Troubadours won five of six singles matches and swept all three doubles matches to cruise to the victory.

Senior Kyla Jackson won in straight set 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4 with the Troubies getting similar results from freshman Alisha Anwar at No. 3, senior Marisa Fat at No. 5 and freshman Alex Evans, who subbed for senior Kiya Jackson, at No. 6.

“Today was an exciting match but it was a little difficult because my sister (Kiya) did not get to play,” said Kyla Jackson. “There was more pressure but our team is really deep. I was confident we were going to do our best today.”

Top doubles partners Cameron Parra and Izzy Asker won 6-1, 6-4 at No.1 over Milly Essa and Emily Chau of Franklin. Sophomores Sam Sonntag and Peyton Spellacy paired for the win at No. 2 doubles and sophomore Bianca Ariza and senior Stephanie Fong posted a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3.
