Varsity Basketball Improves to 12-0, Clinches Delta League

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Janae Fairbrook scored 15 points on five three-pointers to help St. Francis to a 71-37 victory over Franklin Tuesday night.

St. Francis (21-4) clinched the Delta League title with the victory with two games remaining in the regular season schedule. The Troubadours travel to Monterey Trail on Friday night before hosting Grant on Tuesday, Feb. 16 for Senior Night.

“We were hitting our shots and playing well,” said Fairbrook. “It feels amazing to (win the Delta League). It is great to know we will be recognized forever with a banner in the gym. I am so glad to have accomplished this with the team.”

Senior Lauren Craig posted a monster double-double with 25 and 15 rebounds with four blocks. Craig scored 12 points in the first half as SF built a 24-12 lead.

“Lauren did great tonight and she was really on,” said Fairbrook, who added five assists and three steals. “She was focused and determined.”

Julia Razo added 11 points and Kyra Huffman scored 10 in the win.

All 14 players saw action in the game as the Troubies extended the lead in the second half.

Adrianna Jimenez led the Wildcats with 15 points.

JV Loses Heartbreaker: The St. Francis JV team lost a heartbreaker to Franklin as the Wildcats forced two turnovers and converted them into baskets to win 39-35 in the final minute. The Troubadours were playing for a share of the Delta League title and fought back from a double-digit deficit to tie the game at 32. SF took the lead 35-34 on a Jorie Keitges three. Franklin tied the game at 35, setting up the game-winning possession for St. Francis. Morgan Kaeser led the team with nine points , nine boards and eight steals. Ally Gagw added nine boards. Annie McDaniel helped the comeback effort with two threes and Izabella Quiniola and Keitges each added one in the fourth quarter.

Burrows Ties Career-High as Frosh Defeat El Dorado: Brynne Burrows scored 17 points as three players scored in double figures in a 62-22 win over El Dorado. Krysta Alvarez added 14 points and Nikki Morissette contributed 11 points. SF hosts St. Mary’s on Friday on TroubieTV in the season finale at 4 p.m.
