Edwards Posts 20 Kills in Win

DAVIS, Calif. – Sophomore Alexa Edwards had 20 kills while hitting 35 percent with 13 digs to help St. Francis to a 3-1 victory over Davis Wednesday night. The win improved St. Francis to 10-0 in Delta League play with four regular season matches left with a 22-4 overall record.

“She is one of the hardest working kids I have and the most humble kid you ever want to meet,” said Head Coach Alynn Wright after the game to the Davis Enterprise. “It is not about her. It is about the team and she is going to do whatever she can to help the team.”

St. Francis opened the match on the road with a 25-11 win over the Blue Devils to set the early tone. But Davis rebounded in the second 25-23 with the help of unforced errors.

“We missed eight serves,” said Wright. “Whenever you miss that many serves, it is not only the point you give away but the points that come after. In the first set we sided out every single time. We didn’t do quite the same in the second set. They played scrappy defense and kept balls in play and we had a lot of unforced errors.”

The Troubadours rallied after dropping just their third set in league play, posting 25-18, 25-19 wins to clinch the match.

Junior Kathryn Kramer helped the effort with 12 kills and added six aces. The Troubies served 17 aces in the match to help the effort despite the errors in the second set. Senior Mady Schildmeyer set the offense with 48 assists.

“This gym is always a fun one to play in but it’s a tough gym to play in,” said Wright. “It is a tough crowd with a great band. It is a lot of fun for the girls. I am always happy to have this one checked off the list.”

After two consecutive road contests, SF returns home for two matches next week starting with Elk Grove on Monday. The team will tune up for the final league push with play in the Stockton Invitational this weekend.

St. Francis swept all three matches with the Junior Varsity winning 25-18, 25-19, while the freshman opened the night with a 25-23, 25-17 win.
