Tambornini Scores Three Goals in Loss

CARMICHAEL, Calif. – Davis scored three times in the third quarter to break open a close game and held on for an 8-6 win over St. Francis Wednesday night, spoiling the senior night for the Troubadours.

St. Francis (13-5) rallied in the fourth to cut the deficit to 8-6 after trailing 7-3 after three quarters.

“It was really positive for us to come back in the fourth quarter and fight to make the score a little closer,” said Head Coach Heather Moody. “The big thing for us is to work through being confident with the ball. In the fourth we found the back of the net which is huge for us for Nor Cals.”

Senior Ally Tambornini led the Troubadours with three goals on the night.

“Ally is one of those kids the longer she is in the water, the more you are going to get out of her,” said Moody. “She is the energizer bunny and she just goes and goes. She had no fear and went for it. She left everything in the water and that is exactly what we need.”

Davis (19-6) led 4-3 at the half before scoring three unanswered goals and shutting out St. Francis in the third. The Blue Devils went into a stall offense to run clock in the fourth but the Troubadours kept fighting.

“It wasn’t what we wanted,” said Tambornini of the loss. “We played really well and came back as a team in the fourth quarter. We all meshed well and started having confidence in ourselves.”

Seniors Maggie Oys, Jenna Barthels and Kira Chavez also scored in the contest.

St. Francis travels to the Bay area for the Nor Cal Championships on Friday and have a opening round game against Miramonte.

“They are a fast team, they are going to push the counter attack and they have a good goalie,” said Moody. “It is going to be a good challenge for us to get ready for playoffs.”

St. Francis honored their 10 seniors in a pre-game ceremony before the game. Following Nor Cals, St. Francis will await their seeding in the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs set to begin next week.
