Water Polo Records Comeback Win over Granite Bay

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Malia Arnott scored the go ahead goal to cap a big comeback as the St. Francis water polo team escaped with a 10-9 win over Granite Bay on Thursday.

“The biggest thing tonight was to remind them to fall back on the work they do in practice,” said Head Coach Heather Moody. “They work really hard and put a ton of energy into training. They should get confidence from that and build it into a game. They found that tonight.”

St. Francis trailed by at least three goals three times in the contest, including 9-6 with under six minutes left. Senior Kobe Carpenter scored with 5:24 left to cut the deficit. Malia Arnott got a turnover and scored to cut it to 9-8. Caroline Wilkins scored her fourth goal of the game to tie it 10.

“It was a combination of a bunch girls stepping up and getting out of their comfort zone,” said Moody. “Caroline stepped up big offensively and defensively. She did a great job.”

Ari Miggins played a tough second half of the fourth quarter to allow for the comeback.

“She had a little more calm approach in the cage,” said Moody. “We made the switch to get a different look.”

Malia Arnott scored the game winner with 2:22 left in the game, scoring her second of the game. Wilkins led the team with four goals and an assist. Natalie Imboden had three assists, while Arnott and Houck scored two times each.

“We knew it was going to be one of our toughest games,” said Wilkins.
