Water Polo Wins Home Opener 22-1

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis water polo team won its home opener Tuesday afternoon with ease with a 22-1 victory over Monterey Trail at the Jesuit HS pool.

“It is always positive when you can get everyone in the water and focus on our defense, defensive positioning and finishing our shots,” said Head Coach Heather Moody. “We struggled last weekend finishing our shots so it was good to see a score like today.”

The Troubadours scored 10 times in the opening period and led 15-1 at halftime. St. Francis added seven goals in the second half without allowing another point.

Seven players scored two or more goals in the game. Caroline Urkov had a team-best four goals, while Marissa Zanobini, Emily Reinl and Samantha Reinl each had a trio of goals.

St. Francis (3-2) returns to the pool on Thursday at Rio Americano at 7 p.m.
