2015 Softball Highlights

  • The St. Francis softball team advanced to the double-elimination second round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Playoffs. The Troubadours opened with a 9-7 win over McClatchy before losing to Bella Vista (12-8) and River City (8-4). Overall, St. Francis went 16-14 and 9-5 in the Delta League to finish third overall.
  • Senior Danika Bailey was named the Delta League Co-Player of the Year. The Cal signee hit a league-best .642, an average that ranked among the Top 100 players in the country and fifth-best in the section, with a .660 average in league play. On the season, she recorded 18 RBI and a league-best 55 runs scored  (2nd-best in the SJS) and 32 stolen bases (9th-best in the SJS). She hit safely in 28 of 30 games and recorded 25 multi-hit games. The Natomas product was also fourth in the league in slugging percentage. Bailey was also named the team St. Francis MVP and named to the Optimist All-Star Game.
  • Six players earned Delta League first-team honors led by Bailey. Junior Mel Baccay and Lauren Washburn were both named to the first team. Baccay, the team’s Most Inspirational Player, hit .571 in league play (4thbest) and posted a .447 oveall mark for the season with a team-best tying 30 RBI. Washburn, who was chosen the Most Improved Player, batted .529 in league play, the ninth-best average in the league, while posting a .447 average on the season with 28 RBI.
  • Sophomore Ryann O’Mara and juniors Hannah Willover and Shelby Tevis were Delta League second-team honorees. O’Mara hit .462, the second-best mark on the team, with a .409 mark in league play with a team-best tying 30 RBI. Willover hit .395 with 24 RBI and a team-best 10 doubles, while Tevis is hitting .357 with 15 RBI and a team-best three home runs, including two in the playoffs.
  • Sophomore Jada Kanemasu went 12-5 on the mound with a 4.51 ERA. The 12 wins ranked as the second-best total of the season. She received the Delta League Sportsmanship Award.
  • St. Francis softball lost a heartbreaker on a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning to Christian Brothers 10-6 in the Albie Swingin event for Cancer Awareness.
  • Junior Mel Baccay was named the 35th-best prospect in the class of 2016 by the sport website Full Count Softball.
