Water Polo Tryouts and Practice Information

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis varsity water polo tryouts start on Aug. 14 from 5:30-8 p.m. at Jesuit High School and continue Aug. 15-18. The team will be named on Friday, August 18. The Junior Varsity (no-cut) will have practice Aug. 14-18 from 5:30-7:15 a.m. at Rio Americano High School. JV Participants must be able to swim 8 laps of freestyle without stopping. All participants need to have a current physical on form with St. Francis prior to participation.

Varsity Tennis Tryouts

Varsity Tennis Tryouts will be Wednesday August 16 thru Friday August 18. They will be at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club from 3:30-5:30 p.m.. Tryouts are closed to parents. Please bring appropriate tennis clothes and shoes, tennis racquet, sunscreen and lots of water. Any questions, please email Head Coach Kristi Spector. Sports Physical forms must be competed ahead of time or your child will not be allowed on the court.

Cross Country Summer Fun Runs

Summer Fun Runs begin Monday, June 5. All runners should meet for first practice at Glenn Hall Park from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Practices will be held Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights and Saturday mornings (9:00 a.m-10:30 a.m.) from June 5-August 2. Practice locations may change, but will be communicated by email and on the practice schedule.

The “Fun Runs” are not official St. Francis cross country practices but coordinated thru Sacramento Elite. Participation is voluntary but summer conditioning is encouraged prior to the season.

Lacrosse Tryouts Start Feb. 6

Lacrosse Tryouts; starting Monday, February 6. 2017 from 4pm-6pm @ Mather Field.

Softball Tryout Information

Pitchers and Catchers will work out at the field starting Wednesday and will have work outs Feb. 1-3 from 3:30-5:00 p.m. Full team tryouts start Feb. 6-10 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. each day. All players must have a physical on file prior to competing in tryouts.

Lacrosse Preseason Conditioning 

The Lacrosse team will be doing preseason conditioning starting Tuesday, January 17 and will meet every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday until the official start of practice. Players should meet in the gym lobby. Physicals must be on file with Athletic Trainer Kelly Ketcham.

The Softball program will be conditioning Monday, Wednesday, Thursdays from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in the fitness center. Sessions will be held weekly until winter break. Student-athletes must have a physical on file to participate in the activity.

Basketball and Soccer Tryouts Start Monday, November 7

Varsity and JV Gold soccer will have tryouts at Granite Regional Park from 3:30-5:00 p.m. JV Red soccer tryouts will be on the soccer field on campus from 3:30-5:00 p.m. Starting placements for the JV teams can be found here. Varsity basketball tryouts will be in the gym from 3:30-5:30 p.m., while JV basketball tryouts will be in the Armory 5:30-7:30 p.m. The Freshmen basketball tryouts will be in the Armory 3:30-5:30 p.m.

Track & Field Preseason Information

  • Pre-pre-season conditioning will begin October 3. These workouts will be held at Jesuit High School on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays starting at around 3:30.  These workouts will be relatively short (approx.1 hour) focused on general conditioning and overall fitness, with some attention to technique for sprinters and hurdlers.

Lacrosse Conditioning

All players interested in trying out for JV and Varsity Lacrosse, please report to optional conditioning Monday, January 25, at 4:20 pm in the gym foyer, stretched and ready to go. 

  • Conditioning will be Monday-Thursday from January 25-February 4, 4:20-5 pm.
  • NO cleats, sticks, lacrosse balls, or goggles. 
  • Please wear comfortable running shoes.

Basketball Conditioning

Basketball conditioning begins Thursday, October 1 from 3:30 to 5:15 the Armory.  Although conditioning is not mandatory, it is highly recommended.  All 3 levels – varsity, junior varsity, and freshmen – participate in conditioning.  On Friday, October 2 we will meet in the Fitness Center.  The varsity will go from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., and the jv and frosh will go from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m..  Other than the first two days, we will meet Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in the Armory, and Tuesdays and Thursdays in the Fitness Center.

Cross Country Practices Start Aug. 10

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Practices for the 2015 St. Francis cross country season start on Monday, August 10 at the school with workouts from 6:30 p.m. to 8:15/8:30 p.m. Times for practice on Saturday, August 15 will be 9:30-11:30 a.m. at St. Francis.

All participants need to have a current physical on form with St. Francis prior to participation. During the first week of school, practice will shift to after school from 3:20-5:00/5:15 p.m. Monday thru Thursday.

Water Polo Tryout and Practice Schedules

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis varsity water polo tryouts start on Aug. 12 from 7-9 p.m. at Jesuit High School and continue Aug. 13 and 14. SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball program will have conditioning Monday thru Thursday from 9:30-11:00 a.m. next week in the Armory.  Tryouts begin the following week in the main gym. Varsity workouts will be held from 8:30-11:30 a.m., JV from 1:00-3:30 p.m., and the Freshmen from 3:00-5:30 p.m.  Freshmen are to wear a white shirt with their first name on the front and their last name on the back.

St. Francis Tennis Tryouts

The first day of tryouts will be Tuesday, August 18. Tryouts will go thru Friday August 21, and possibly into the following week if necessary. Tryouts will be held at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday and 3:30-5:30 p.m. during the rest of the week. The address is 119 Scripps Dr., Sacramento, Ca 95825. Volleyball Open Gym Nights, Tryouts Set

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball program will host open gyms on Monday and Wednesday afternoons starting June 22 for four weeks before beginning conditioning on August 3.

Head Coach Alynn Wright will start open gyms June 22 and 24 from 4-6 p.m. each night followed by sessions from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. starting June 29. The remaining July dates are July 1, 6, 8, 13 (Armory), 15 (Armory). Conditioning will be held the week of August 3 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. each day in the Armory.

 Will begin with a Fit Test…Mon 2/2 – Thurs 2/4

o I’m hopeful you acted on our previous fitness preparation conversation… and are prepared.

o Manage your paper work – need a completed physical BEFORE you can run.

o Each team will have a fit test time slot…sign-up for a test

o The time slots reflect your game time… varsity plays @ 3:30… Froshie play mostly @ 4pm… JV has 

o Be on time, warm yourself up, and be fast.

o This is more formal than last year – we are expecting more numbers trying-out this year.

o We can handle 12 runners per time slot…you will be timed individually and your time will be 

o Wear your white try-out shirt with your name on it.

o To be clear, you run just once on one day.

 Feb 9th  - 2 weeks of evaluation

o With our Fit Tests complete, this allows us to focus on your play.

o If you are interested in trying-out for the team above you… simply put a star by your name…

o Only those invited will try-out for the team above them F > JV; JV  >  V.

o We will communicate daily as a staff to move people around as we see fit.

o This year is an anomaly with the varsity #’s; the PROCESS will be VERY COMPETITIVE.

o We may need to stagger the try-outs = varsity plays on the Game Field & JV & F share… 

o Each team will have FOUR try-out sessions/week (one week day will be off).

SFHS Sports Physicals

The Booster Club starts each school year with Sports Physical Night. This is an excellent opportunity for all athletes to complete their required physical exam for any sport, even springtime sports. The cost is nominal and athletes, along with their parents, will have an opportunity to meet many coaches. This evening also offers on-campus fingerprinting services for our incoming parent volunteers and a chance to shop the Troubie Store for uniform needs. (See information about the Parent Service Program and Diocesan Requirements, including fingerprinting, at Parent Volunteering).

Every student on an SFHS sports team must have a current Preparticipation Physical Formon file prior to the first work-out. Physicals are good for the 2017-18 season performed after June 1. To facilitate this process, St. Francis High School’s Booster Club is sponsoring a Sports Physical Clinic.

Athletics Tryouts Schedules Adjusted on Tuesday August 12

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Tryout schedules for volleyball, water polo and cross country have been adjusted on Tuesday, August 12 for the Memorial Service for Brian Dodson on campus.

Volleyball will now have all workouts in the morning with the varsity tryouts on the court from 8-10 a.m., while the junior varsity and freshmen workouts will be held from 10-Noon. Both take place in the St. Francis gym on campus.
