Water Polo Scores 18 in Win over Laguna Creek

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis water polo team posted an 18-4 victory over Laguna Creek Tuesday at Rio del Oro Racquet Club. Eight players had multiple goal games to lead the winning effort.

The Troubadours jumped out to a 6-0 after the first period with two goals by Marissa Zanobini and Jenna Bellinger. Maggie Oys and Julie Zanobini, who finished with two goals, also scored in the opening period.

“We had seven players out today so their teammates had to step in and fill the void and we had success,” said head coach Heather Moody. “It was a good game.”

St. Francis would extend the lead to 15-0 after three periods. Laguna Creek scored four times in the final period.

Emily Reinl, Lauren Charter, Lilly Murphy, Caroline Urkov and Samantha Reinl each tallied two goals. Annie Rafeld also scored in the game,

St. Francis travels to St. Mary’s next week for an anticipated match.

“It will be a good matchup,” said Moody. “We have some things to work on this week to get ready.”

The Troubies lost to St. Mary’s 6-3 at the Woodcreek Invitational.
