The Speech team provides opportunities for students to develop public speaking abilities while furthering their critical thinking and analytical skills. Through a variety of speaking opportunities to choose from, students may write original pieces, interpret published scripts or speeches, respond to prompts about world events, or compete impromptu. Students who want to improve presentation skills, enjoy drama/theater, have a passion for world events and can choose or write scripts are encouraged to audition! The team participates in 4 tournaments per season, mostly on Saturdays. Contact Mrs. Benson to sign up.
Congratulations to Olivia Fu for taking first place in two local Optimist Speech Tournaments in March, advancing her to Regionals in April. There she took first place, yet again, winning $2500! Way to go Olivia!
Congratulations to Isabelle Bauman, Mia Bonini, Julia Cannon, Tessa Crouch, Sophia Fox, Olivia Fu, Yukta Gutta, and Alexandra Retodo who will be attending the State Tournament on April 15-17, at Mission College in Santa Clara, CA.
A special congratulation to Sophia Fox who was selected for the Dream Team award. Coaches select the top five speech students in our region to create a “dream team” of all-star performers. This is a distinguished honor, not only for Sophia, but for St. Francis!
Congratulations to members of the Speech team who participated in the National Catholic Forensic League Qualifier tournament on January 25th. The following students earned an invitation to compete in the National Tournament in Chicago over Memorial Day weekend:
Sophia Fox: 2nd place in Extemporaneous (both International and National)
