This week members of the Garden of Eden Club planted a native
plant garden off Serra Court to honor St. Kateri Tekakwitha, the
Church’s first indigenous saint. The garden features California
natives such as California lilac (ceanothus), Manzanita and
of course the California Golden Poppy. The garden will also
provide food and habitat for local wildlife such as the
migratory Gold Finch and the Western Fence Lizard that make
their home at St. Francis. The funding for the garden was
provided by a generous grant from the Sacramento Native
Plant Society.
Thank you to Leyla Logan Camara, Arabella Henry,
Angelyn Gonzales, Isabelle Leon, Seyvene Kahwaji, and
Sophia Harmon for their hard work!
