Sketching in visual and other art forms is similar to conditioning in sports or gathering information in science. In general, a sketch is a quick way to record ideas for later use, but also a way to precisely study a subject before starting final work.

Sketches displayed at this art exhibit were selected from over 2,500 pieces from students’ sketchbooks, which account for a half of the class assignment for a semester. The selected pieces show an amazing amount of energy, creativity, dedication, patience, and knowledge in exploring and executing visual information in different art techniques.

In addition to representing rapidly executed ideas, a large number of sketches displayed are completed art studies. The quantity and quality of the sketches exhibited exceed the assignment requirement and St. Francis students, once again, demonstrate excellence and high achievement.
