Altobell Goal Wins Holy Cup

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Sydney Altobell scored a first half strike and it was all the team needed in a 1-0 win over Christian Brothers in the Holy Cup matchup.

“It felt so good,” said Altobell. “It was really important because it was the only goal of the game. I know we worked hard to keep it that way. I turned around and saw on open goal and I shot. It was kinda like the Armijo goal.”

Altobell had the game winner in the playoffs in 1-0 game last year against Armijo.

“You just had to wait and watch it go in,” said Altobell, who said the bench estimated the strike at 30 yards.

Junior Ariana Avila set up the goal and was credited with the assist.

“All my friends are out here so it was a lot of fun to shoot right in front of them, said Altobell. “We had a lot of support out here. It was our first home game…It was really cool.”

St. Francis improved to 5-0 on the season.

“Sydney teed that up and it was a World Cup goal,” said Head Coach Maryclaire Robinson. “She fired a laser beam. It was great. The goalkeeper had no chance. We could not speak on the bench for a few minutes because it was amazing. She cut it, put it on her right foot and had a little space and fired it into nothing but the side net. What a great way to start the home game stretch.”

Meredith Kaeser recorded the shutout in goal for St. Francis.

“CB is a tough one because you don’t see them during the year and it is a super emotional game,” said Robinson.

The Troubadours are back in action on Monday at Bella Vista.
